Skilled Worker Visas

A Skilled Worker visa allows you to come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer.

This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa.

Skilled Worker Visa Sponsorship Licence Renewals

The Home Office has announced that from 6 April 2024, employers that already hold a sponsorship licence will no longer be required to apply for a licence renewal after four years.

There is no action needed for employers. If a practice has a sponsorship licence that is due to expire on or after this date, the Home Office will automatically extend the expiry date on the licence to 10 years.

There has also been changes to the costs for Skilled Worker Visa, Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and Citizenship applications.

GP Practice requirements for Skilled Worker Licence application

  • Skilled Worker visa (previously Tier 2) is the immigration route for non-EEA doctors to work in the UK.
  • GP Practices can apply for the sponsorship licence which is valid for ten years from 6 April 2024.
  • It takes about half an hour to register and set up the online account.
  • Online application takes eight weeks to process.
  • You can apply in advance for an undefined certificate of sponsorship (COS) which reduces the processing time when needed

There is a detailed application guide which includes a list of required supporting documents, fees, and step by step information.
